Rotherham United can confirm that defender Richard Wood has agreed a deal with South Yorkshire neighbours Doncaster Rovers, subject to EFL and FA ratification.
The Millers club captain has been snapped up by Rovers following confirmation of the club’s retained list being publicised this summer and will officially become a part of Grant McCann’s squad ahead of 2023/24 campaign on 1st July 2023.
Well-wishes have poured in for the affectionately dubbed ‘Magic Man’ over the last few weeks to celebrate his success-laden nine-year stay at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
The Ossett-born centre back departs AESSEAL New York Stadium with legendary status at the club and 256 appearances and 23 goals to his name in total, including two in the 2017/18 Sky Bet League One Play-off final at Wembley.
Wood's stay in Rotherham is vastly decorated with highlights including three promotions and a Papa Johns Trophy triumph after joining the Millers in July 2014. He fittingly bowed out as a Rotherham player by helping the club to Sky Bet Championship survival in 2022/23 with a home win over Middlesbrough in front of a packed out AESSEAL New York Stadium.

It is with the very best wishes of everyone at Rotherham United and with our wholehearted thanks for his colossal contribution to our football club that Wood leaves for pastures new at the Eco Power Stadium.
A video interview with Richard in which he looks back over his time as a Miller is currently in-production and will be posted on the club’s official channels in the coming days.
