Jamie Devitt signs for the Millers...

Millers manager Steve Evans has moved to sign winger Jamie Devitt on an emergency loan from nPower Championship side Hull City.

The Irishman will move to Rotherham on an initial month-long loan deal, to cover for injuries on the right to Dale Tonge and Lionel Ainsworth.  The midfielder’s paperwork was also completed in time to make him eligible for the visit of Stevenage in this Saturday’s FA Cup fixture.

The 22-year-old knows the ropes in League Two, having represented Bradford City and Accrington Stanley during last season’s campaign.  His impressive form for the Tigers’ reserves this season – including creating two of their four goals in their 4-2 victory over their Chesterfield counterparts on Tuesday – was a key factor in Evans’ decision to bring the Dubliner to the New York Stadium.

Evans told Millers Player: “He is a wide player that we know well. We saw him last season when he had a couple of loan spells away from Hull, and obviously he first came to my attention by playing in the Hull City first-team.

“He is a young man but has good experience for his age and desperately needs to be playing first-team football. He is a good player and a welcome addition to the squad, and thankfully Steve Bruce has sanctioned the deal and he joins us initially for a month.”

“Steve (Bruce) has cleared him to play which we are grateful for, he and his assistant Steve Agnew have been really helpful to us so we thank them.”
