Millers head coach Leam Richardson was reunited with Charlie Wyke on Deadline Day of the Winter Window, having previously managed him during the pair’s time together at the DW Stadium, with the 31-year-old arriving to bolster the attacking ranks.

The Middlesbrough-born frontman had already turned out 22 times for the Latics prior to his arrival in South Yorkshire and had eight goals to his name across league and cup competitions when he penned the temporary switch to AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Wyke, who began his career with his hometown club Boro, racked up a wealth of loan experience before a permanent switch to Carlisle United followed in 2015. A prolific spell with the Cumbrians saw him find the net 32 times in 77 games over two years before Bradford City swooped to secure his services on Deadline Day of the January transfer window in 2017.

The powerful forward was even more devastating in front of goal during his time with the Bantams where he boasted a ratio equating to better than a goal every other game and prompted Sunderland to make a move to land his signature in the summer of 2018

After a steady start to life on Wearside, Wyke once again re-discovered his red hot form in front of goal when he netted 25 goals in 43 appearances in the 2020/21 campaign.

In July 2021, Richardson landed Wyke’s signature for Wigan, where the two worked together through an incredibly difficult time as a result of the forward’s well-documented health troubles.

He has since returned to full fitness and has featured regularly for the Latics before making his Millers move.
