Football League sponsor Sky Bet will be enhancing your match-day experience on Friday with the introduction of iBeacons technology at the New York Stadium.

Match-goers can use their smart phone or tablet to opt in to take advantage of the free service, which will be provided through Sky Bet’s mobile apps, as Leeds make the short trip to South Yorkshire. Simply by having Bluetooth low energy turned on, fans can pick up the messages transmitted at various points around the stadium.

A modern, innovative way of delivering information and consumer opportunities, iBeacons are initially supported by a range of iOS devices, although the hope is to develop an Android version in the near future too.

Sky Bet’s Head of Sponsorship, Edwin Martin, said: “This is cutting-edge technology which we’re trying out and we hope to offer football fans a range of special offers in the near future. It’s a really exciting idea so we’re hoping fans will keep an eye out for the messages on match days.”

“The Millers had over 9,500 in attendance at their last home game, and the visit of Yorkshire rivals Leeds on Friday should see an even bigger turnout.

“As the Football League sponsor, we are delighted a forward-thinking club like Rotherham United have been keen to try out this new technology with us, and we hope to use this to improve the match-day experience with offers and content for as many of their fans as possible”

“Rotherham United are very pleased to be at the forefront of what is an exciting new project with league partners Sky Bet.

“This technology will give fans an innovative and new way of betting, whilst at the same time help the club financially too with fans being encouraged to sign up to Sky Bet using the club URL of www.skybet.com/rotherham.”
