Danny Ward recently spoke to Millers Matchday...

Playmaker Danny Ward admits he is excited at the prospect of getting regular games under his belt after putting pen to paper with the Millers.

With the ink still wet on his loan deal from West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, Ward was thrusted immediately into the fray during the Millers narrow 1-0 defeat at the hands of play-off chasing Brentford despite having just one training session with his new charges and his last start for the Terriers being in mid-September.

Speaking exclusively to Millers Matchday following the trip to London, the 24-year-old was quick to express his delight at returning to the cut and thrust of frontline Championship action.

"I've not played for a good while and I'm struggling to remember the last time I started a game," he admitted.

"It's great to be back in the starting line-up and the move is exactly what I need, so hopefully it can get me going.

"I've played a few years in the Championship with Huddersfield and if you’re not playing week-in, week-out, it's a hard, tough league as you have to be match sharp every week and that is difficult when you are just training and not playing games."

Boss Steve Evans made no secret of his delight of securing the services of the mercurial player, reportedly fending off interest from rivals in the process, and the ex-Bolton Wanderers player revealed the move was quick in the making after Rotherham declared their interest in the days leading to the trip to the capital.

"It all happened very quickly," Ward added.

"I first heard about Rotherham's interest on the Wednesday and the papers were all signed by Thursday afternoon.

"I knew a few of the lads before I came here and they are a great bunch, which helps massively, but I know Rotherham is a good club with a cracking stadium and I'm looking forward to my time here."
