Assistant Manager explains selection decision...

Assistant Manager Paul Raynor praised the first half performance of his young side despite a flurry of late goals against Queen of the South this afternoon.

The Millers were defeated 5-1 but lead for over 40 minutes at Parmeston Park before being undone in the final quarter of the game.

“I think we came up against a well drilled and very good side today,” he told www.themillers.co.uk

“I think at times we moved the ball very well. I was particularly pleased with the first half performance and pleased to see us get an early goal. It was a young side out there but I thought the first period although we were slightly hemmed in at times, we broke well and looked threatening on the counter attack.

“I think the goals we conceded were individual mistakes, they were all preventable, these young players will learn that.”

Raynor also reiterated the reason for the young team after the Millers opted to look after the first-team squad with some players nursing knocks from the game at Falkirk.

“We had a game in the 3G at Falkirk last night and speaking with the medical team and Paul Warne we just felt another game given the niggles we have picked up wouldn’t have been beneficial,” he added.

“We have been training very hard and there are some very big games to come, as much as we would have liked to put a strong side out, we had edge on the side of caution with the long term aim of the match against Derby County in August.”
