Wigley voted in LFE 11...

Defender Harley Wigley was recently chosen by the League Football Education (LFE) in the prestigious ‘LFE 11’ for the month of February.

The Millers Academy skipper lined-up alongside 10 other talented individuals from across the country in the LFE’s elite team, which is a selection based on the football and academic progression of apprentices from every Football League club.

Harley was last week presented with his certificate and award from Academy Manager Garreth Barker who was full of praise for the youngsters’ achievement.

“The LFE ask every club to nominate an individual who has more than exceeded your expectations not just from a technical point of view but also from a social and educational perspective,” Barker told Millers Matchday.

“Harley has improved greatly over the season in all of the mentioned criteria. His attitude is tremendous and his levels of professionalism are first class for a young lad and academically he is over achieving beyond his predicted grades.

“The decision to nominate Harley was a joint one with Head of Academy Coaching Mike Sheron and Harley’s college lecturer and we all come to the same decision that it was thoroughly deserved.”

To make the final ‘11’was some achievement for the second year scholar who faced stiff competition before the list was narrowed from 72 to just 11 names.

“Once nominated Harley has done fantastically well to make the full 11 as every Football League club nominated an individual, so to be chosen from 72 names that have been put forward is no mean feat.,” confirmed Barker.

“I also feel that it is a good reflection on Rotherham United for what we have done as a club over the season on the field, and for the work we have done with the lads off the pitch.”

The team in full:

• Mark Waddington (Blackpool)
• Fraser Murdoch (Crewe Alexandra)
• Sam Ling (Leyton Orient)
• James Roberts (Oxford United)
• Ben Purrington (Plymouth Argyle)
• Harley Wigley (Rotherham United)
• Hakeeb Adelakun (Scunthorpe United)
• Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Sheffield United)
• Ted Smith (Southend United)
• Ibrahim Keita (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
• Cameron Murray (York City)
