Rotherham United and their community sports trust team will be increasing their efforts to give both boys and girls the opportunity to develop themselves as young footballers this academic year. The trust already run successful community football sessions where they provide fun football sessions to the children of Rotherham and this year they will be adding to these by introducing a new player development pathway and also a new development programme in order to provide extra support to help children develop their overall skills.
The structure of all sessions will remain the same as the priority will always be football for all, but now all players will have the chance to work through the levels of our new development programme, which covers four key aspects of an individual’s technical skills. These areas are passing & receiving, dribbling & running with the ball, shooting & finishing, ball manipulation & turning. The pathway has been introduced to ensure that there is a scheme in place that will help players develop and learn the attitude and skills required to be a success in the academy structure.
The Trusts Sports Development Officer James Rawlinson said “we already provide a wide range of community football activities for the children of Rotherham but going forward we want to try and bridge the gap between our community activities and the clubs academy set up, in order to do this we have developed a new player pathway which will allow us to develop individual players and ensure any player who has the potential to progress in the game gets the best coaching and advice possible to follow their goal. We can do this while continuing with our ‘Football for all’ style community sessions all around Rotherham.
Head of Community Jamie Noble added “this is a fantastic new programme that we are launching, it gives our community sessions a boost as all children will have the chance to move up levels by putting into practice what they learn at all our sessions, the player pathway is also a fantastic opportunity and is unique in the fact that we have a direct link to Rotherham United’s academy structure so players can be identified by academy coaches at various levels and asked to attend 6 week trials within the academy set up, this is something that only the Community Sports Trust can offer”
September and will be open to children aged 3-11. The aim of this free session will be to identify the correct starting point for each individual player on our development pathway. The sessions will take place at Clifton Community School (Middle Lane) at the following times:thIn order to kick start this new initiative the Trust will be holding a free session on Saturday 12
U5’s & U7’s @ 9.15 – 10.15
U9’s & U11’s @ 10.30 – 11.30
