Steve Evans talks to www.themillers.co.uk...

Steve Evans is heading south for talks with another prospective new signing today as he pushes ahead with his close season recruitment drive.

Joe Skarz, Richard Brindley and Adam Collin have all put pen-to-paper to join the Millers and the manager is confident the squad will be added to again shortly.

Speaking exclusively to www.themillers.co.uk Steve said: "It would be fair to say it has been a busy week which of course started with a trip to Iceland for both talks with a new prospective player and to watch our own Kari Arnason in action, the big man was outstanding again for his country.

"Our squad is taking shape very nicely and each of the players we have targeted for this summer’s recruitment have been analysed in some detail. It is about putting a squad in place and no signing is more important than any other, everyone will have a part to play.

"Our Chairman has once again been very supportive, he is just incredible. I will not speculate in what players we are in or not in talks with. The only time I feel compelled to do that is when I think Rotherham United are falsely being used by a player or their agent to get themselves a better deal at another club, I hate that but sadly it is a part of the game we all love.

"Subject to final discussions and medicals I have every reason to believe a few players will join us, good young and hungry players that will join an already talented squad we have in place.

"Notwithstanding what I have said I am also in firm discussions with another couple of players but given the likes of holidays and weddings it may be later next week before I can meet again with those two talented lads.”
With the Carling Cup draw scheduled for Monday and the 2013/14 fixtures to be announced on Wednesday, preparations for the players’ return to pre-season are in place ahead of the big kick-off on August 3rd.

"The lads report back on Wednesday week and before then I need to get a wee break. Just about every day since that never to be forgotten day when we got promoted I have been driving things forward, player recruitment, pre-season match and training schedules, it really does test you. Hopefully I can get myself five or six days away, that would be a great result and it would be a few more than last year so that's progress again.

"This football club is moving forward. Season tickets sales are going well, the support we receive, as I have said many times, from our supporters is nothing short of fantastic.

"The Capital One Cup draw is out on Monday, new signings potentially and the League One fixtures are out on Wednesday, it really is exciting. We have some great matches to look forward to and we all want to meet those challenges and embrace them. We will be hosting some fantastic clubs like Wolves, Bristol City and of course our neighbours Sheffield United, it is a great time to be a Miller!"
