With just three games of the regular season remaining, boss Steve Evans is expecting another tough test as the Millers continue preparations for the end of season play-offs.
After securing their berth in the Sky Bet League One promotion showdown some weeks ago, Evans is now looking ahead to tomorrow’s Bank Holiday Monday fixture with Port Vale, with his players and staff reporting in at the training ground this morning in preparation of what the Millers boss believes to be another tough examination.
“There is no doubt this will be another hard fixture against a good side, but these are exactly the type of games we need to ensure we are fully prepared for the upcoming play-offs,” he told www.themillers.co.uk
“No-one will be taking their foot off the gas, the staff and I will simply not allow it. There was no finer example of this than our performance at Wolves where we had the runaway leaders on the back foot for long spells of the game.
“The players have come in this morning in good spirits, the mood in the camp is very positive and we are in good shape in terms of our options for team selection for tomorrow’s game.
“It is the start of a great week of football for Rotherham United supporters. We have the Bank Holiday fixture with Vale tomorrow, followed by an open training session at New York Stadium on Tuesday and then our final home fixture of the regular season against MK Dons on Saturday. It promises to be a terrific week of football to coincide with the Easter holidays.”
With now just three games remaining before the play-off fixtures the excitement is starting to build, but whilst Evans believes it has been a worthy achievement his sole focus is on the game with the Valiants tomorrow.
“We are proud to have achieved a play-off spot so early and rightly the players are too, but we want to finish the season as high as we possibly can,” Evans added.
“Our focus is all on the game tomorrow, nothing else matters at this stage make no mistake we will, as always, be going out to win and to entertain as we have all season.
“We know there will be a healthy home contingent who will have enjoyed their weekend, it is our mission to get three more valuable points.
“The Millers support are very special to me and I want them in good spirits at the end of the Bank Holiday weekend.”
