Alan Stubbs post Nottingham Forest...

Rotherham United manager Alan Stubbs said a point was the very least his side deserved after an enthralling 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest.

The Millers were good value for their one goal advantage at half-time following Jon Taylor’s coolly taken strike, but were pegged back in the second half by Matt Mills’ header.

Following Darnell Fisher’s red card for a second bookable offence, Forest duly went in front through a Apostolos Vellios wonder strike but 10 man Rotherham earned a deserved point when Taylor bagged a second three minutes from time.

After the game boss Stubbs was delighted with his side’s performance as they maintained their unbeaten home start to the Championship season.

“We looked a threat all night against a team that has started the season well,” Stubbs said.

“To then find ourselves 2-1 down it's one of those where you're thinking we're not getting what we deserve out of the game.

“I thought a draw was at least what we deserved, especially when we've gone down to 10 men. The lads really dug in and showed the right attitude and it was unfortunate.

“We should be on 12 points and I don't think anybody can deny us that, but we're getting stronger and it's the first time I've probably had nearly a full quota to choose from tonight.

“When we have everybody fit, we're unbeaten at home and that tells you how good and difficult it has been to come here, and we'll keep progressing and keep getting stronger. I thought the resilience of the lads was fantastic.”

After bringing on youngster Jerry Yates, Stubbs was forced to bring off the striker following Fisher’s red card, and the Millers boss admitted it was decision he had to make.

“I had to apologise to Jerry who I had to take off,” Stubbs added.

“It's not nice but you have to make a decision, but Izzy was the more experienced and he looked a threat.

“As I say, I apologised, because it's not nice and I wouldn't like it to happen to me, but there was a need within the game to get a defender on and we had to make a sacrifice.”

On the red card, Stubbs had no complaints following Fisher’s dismissal, stating the former Celtic man will learn from the experience.

“I spoke to Darnell and he's still a young lad and you don't put yourself in a position like that to make it easy for the referee to give you a yellow,” Stubbs continued.

“We have done well at home. We've been disappointed by our form away from home because at times we've done well for certain parts of the game, and at times we haven't and we've been punished.

“We know that this league is one of the most cruel and if you switch off for one second, the ball will be in the back of the net because there's a lot of quality. I thought overall we should have got three points tonight.

“I'm disappointed for the lads because they put another great effort in, but its the first of many and what we're going to have to do.”
