Rotherham United will shine a light on the fantastic work undertaken by paramedics, club staff, volunteers and supporters at our last home game against Birmingham City which helped to save the life of Millers fan Sid Barraclough, whilst also offering important training around CPR prior to the game.

A pre-match ‘thank you’ from the club will see a number of those involved in the heroic actions of a fortnight ago take to the AESSEAL New York Stadium pitch to be applauded by everyone inside the stadium ahead of the game against the Bluebird, including the Barraclough family who are attending the fixture as guests of the club.

The Community Trust have also arranged for two local organisations to attend the match to put on workshops regarding the importance of learning CPR and the life-saving impact that acting quickly can have.

ACW Medical will be on the forecourt of AESSEAL New York Stadium ahead of the game to provide CPR training, with a particular focus on how to administer it to women – which is a practice that isn’t widely understood.

We will also have Trish from the Restart-A-Heart organisation in our company to pass on her knowledge around defibrillators and how they can be used by the public. Restart-A-Heart are the people responsible for the installation of the defib on the North West corner here at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

We hope that the events planned for the weekend fulfil their purpose of showing those involved in saving Sid’s life that we are eternally grateful for their actions and demonstrate to the wider public that they too could do the same with some basic understanding of CPR.
