SIGNING | Millers tie up Tariqe loan deal

Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the loan capture of Brentford attacker Tariqe Fosu, who arrives at AESSEAL New York Stadium until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, subject to ratification from the EFL, FA and Premier League.

The 27-year-old has most commonly been utilised as a wing-back on either flank or deployed as a winger and spent the first half of the campaign with fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Stoke City, where he made 20 appearances across all competitions.

The London-born operator came through the academy ranks with Reading, making his debut for the Royals at the end of the 2014/15 campaign and enjoyed loan spells with the likes of Fleetwood Town, Accrington Stanley and Colchester United before sealing a permanent move to Charlton Athletic in 2017.

Having helped the Addicks to successive Play-off finishes – the second of which saw them secure promotion to the second tier – Fosu moved to Oxford United in the summer of 2019, where he netted an impressive 10 goals in the first half of the campaign.

His lethal form in front of goal earned him plaudits and admirers alike from the higher echelons of the footballing pyramid and it was Brentford who swooped for his signature on the final day of the January transfer window.

The attacker helped the Bees reach the Play-off final that campaign, but they ultimately fell short after losing out to Fulham. In the following campaign, Fosu netted four times in 49 appearances as Thomas Frank’s side went one better, sealing to promotion to the Premier League via the Play-offs.

During his time in West London, the former England U18 was called up to represent the Ghanaian National Team, for whom he has scored one goal in four appearances.

Fosu joins as Matt Taylor’s third signing of the January transfer window and will wear the number 7 shirt during his time in South Yorkshire.
