After a well-deserved summer break, Rotherham United first team players and staff were back at Roundwood as their preparations ahead of the 2021/22 campaign got underway.

Players and staff alike were all wearing beaming smiles on their faces and there was tangible sense excitement in the air as the work finally began ahead of another season.

The likes of Joshua Kayode and Mickel Miller were back at Roundwood following loan spells away from AESSEAL New York Stadium, as they look to work their way into contention ahead of the start of the Sky Bet League One campaign.

The pre-season group was split into two with the first set getting a feel for a football again after a number of weeks away, with the second undergoing a series of sports science related examinations, as well as being put through their paces with a one mile run, with both groups set to switch roles tomorrow.

Like the rest of his teammates, Rotherham United midfielder Matt Crooks pushed himself to the limit in today’s session recording a personal best in the mile run of 4 minutes and 49 seconds, surpassing his previous record of 4 minutes 54 seconds.

Perhaps fittingly, the players were met with a clear blue sky and glorious sunshine for training session number one 2021/22, as they look to sharpen up ahead of their first pre-season clash against Parkgate at Roundwood Sports Complex.
