Republic of Ireland

The Millers swooped for Republic of Ireland international Stephen Kelly on a short term deal during the 2015/16 season, with the versatile full-back earning a one-year contract extension during the close season.

The vastly experienced defender began his career at Tottenham Hotspur where he made nearly 40 Premier League appearances before switching to Birmingham City in 2006.

He helped Blues to promotion to the Premier League in 2007, and was ever present during the following season back in the top flight. After surprisingly being allowed to join Stoke on loan, he left St. Andrew’s to join Fulham in 2009.

He represented the Cottagers in the Premier League and Europa League, which included a victory over Italian giants Juventus.

In 2013 he joined Reading in The Championship but left the Madjeski Stadium at the end of last season.

He made his debut for the Millers at centre-half in the 1-0 victory over Leeds United at Elland Road. Injury would disrupt his early months at AESSEAL New York Stadium, but he came back strong at the end of the campaign to help the Millers secure their second tier status. He made 15 appearances for the Millers and impressed sufficiently to earn a new deal.

Stephen has represented Republic of Ireland 37 times and was part of their Euro 2012 squad.
