Forward Joshua Kayode has worked his way up through the Academy ranks at Rotherham United, earning himself a long-term contract in April 2021 following a series of impressive loan spells away from AESSEAL New York Stadium.
Having shown promise in his days throughout the youth system and the club’s reserve team, it was decided that the next stage of the 20-year-olds footballing development would involved loan moves elsewhere for first team football.
Kayode enjoyed a short stint with Chesterfield before furthering his education in the North East in the shape of a productive loan spell with Gateshead in 2019.
The striker then joined Carlisle United on loan in January 2020 and quickly endeared himself to the Brunton Park faithful, netting thee goals in his five League Two outings, before the Covid-19 pandemic saw the season curtailed.
His form in Cumbria did not go unnoticed and he returned for a second spell with Chris Beech’s side the following campaign for another temporary switch. Kayode continued to prove his abilities becoming a mainstay in the side before being side-lined with an injury.
He eventually finished the campaign with eight goals in 36 appearances, as the Cumbrians narrowly missed out on Play-off place.
