Washington was snapped up by the Millers following the expiration of his contract at Charlton Athletic to become Paul Warne’s first signing of the 2022/23 campaign.

The 30-year-old scored 11 times in 38 appearances for Charlton across all competitions last term, including a strike against the Millers in a 1-1 draw between the two teams at The Valley in November 2021.

Northern Ireland international Washington has 35 caps and six goals for his country and found the net twice for the Green and White army last season in their 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against Lithuania and Bulgaria.

The Chatham-born operator started his career in the United Counties League with St. Ives Town in 2009, with a prolific spell for the Saints earning him a move to Newport County in 2012, where he helped the Welsh side win promotion to the EFL for the first time in 25 years after triumphing through the Play-offs.

He took his next step on the rung of the EFL ladder in 2013, when he secured a move to Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One, with his form for Posh prompting Queens Park Rangers to pay a multi-million pound fee for his services in January 2016.

Millers supporters may already be familiar with our newest signing, with Washington enjoying a spell with South Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United in August 2018, during which he helped the Blades to win promotion to the Premier League in the same campaign.
