Rotherham United completed the signing of Cameron Humphreys ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, following the expiration of his contract with Belgian First Division A side Zulte Waregem.

The former Manchester City defender penned a three-year deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium to become Paul Warne’s sixth summer signing.

The former England U19 international graduated through City’s youth system and first made headlines when former Citizens’ boss Manuel Pellegrini handed him a starting role in a friendly fixture against Real Madrid in Melbourne.

Then 16, he lined up against a full-strength Madrid outfit, containing the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.

With first team opportunities at a premium at Etihad Stadium, he joined Belgian top-flight side Zulte Waregem in 2019, where he made 55 appearances in all competitions over a three-year stay, during which time he also enjoyed a spell with Dutch second tier side Excelsior.

The 6ft 2 ins centre back has been capped by England up to U19s level, making his debut for the U17s at the age of 14.

Humphreys' performances at the heart of defence were instrumental in helping the Millers retain their second tier status.

Nominated for both the Players' Player and Player of the Season Awards - in which he narrowly lost out to Viktor Johansson - the former Manchester City defender racked up 40 appearances in all competitions.
