Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the signing of defender Sean Raggett, who will join the club upon the expiration of his contract with Portsmouth this summer, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 30-year-old defender returns to South Yorkshire after helping Portsmouth to the Sky Bet League One title last term, where he made 44 appearances in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign.

Raggett – who enjoyed a brief stint on loan at AESSEAL New York Stadium in the 2018/19 campaign – joins as the Millers’ fifth summer signing, following yet more swift business from boss Steve Evans,  who has quickly tied him down to a two-year contract.

He joins his fellow former Portsmouth teammate Joe Rafferty in making the move north, with the pair playing a crucial part in one of the division’s meanest defences in the third tier, which resulted in the title.

The defender came through the ranks at Dover before sealing a move to Lincoln City in 2016 and it was with the Imps where he famously scored a late FA Cup winner to beat Premier League side Burnley at Turf Moor, which ensured his team became the first non-league side to reach the quarter finals of the competition for 103 years.

His form at Sincil Bank caught the attention of many admirers and it was Norwich City who prised him away, completing a money-move in 2017. Enjoying loan moves with Lincoln, the Millers and Portsmouth during his stay at Carrow Road, he joined the latter permanently in 2020, enjoying a four year spell on the South Coast.

Reaction from Sean will be available to watch on www.themillers.co.uk later today.
