Midfielder Joe Powell has agreed a two-year contract at AESSEAL New York Stadium which will see him become Steve Evans’ sixth summer signing upon the expiration of his present deal with Burton Albion – subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 25-year-old is set to make the Millers just the third permanent club of his career, having started out with West Ham United as an Academy player before signing for the Brewers, for whom turned he out for since 2020.

The Canning Town-born midfield man can call upon experience from over 150 appearances for Albion, while also being able to reflect upon the learnings of a loan stint with Northampton Town while contracted to the Hammers in his youth.

A midfield player with an eye for goal, Powell landed the Brewers’ Goal of the Season gong for his stunning strike against Bristol Rovers last term which marked one of the five he returned for the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One campaign.

Understandably popular at the Pirelli Stadium for his contribution not just last season, but since his arrival four years ago, Powell had been offered fresh terms to remain with the Brewers this summer, but has opted to take up a new challenge here in South Yorkshire with the Millers.

He joins what already looks to be an exciting raft of summer recruits which is currently made up of Jonson Clarke-Harris, Shaun McWilliams, Joe Rafferty, Reece James and Sean Raggett.
