Rotherham United Academy battled hard to earn a share of the spoils, with powerful forward Josh Ayres bagging the goal that sealed a point for the Millers.
A typically gritty encounter with the Mariners was bound to be a physical affair, but that’s never been a problem to our towering young striker Josh Ayres.
Having signed his first professional contract only a matter of months ago, Ayres showed his class when Harris Roddis worked a ball out wide to another first-year professional, Ben Hatton. Hatton’s curling delivery was inch-perfect for Ayres, the Millers number 9, whose supreme arial ability was on full display as he powered a header home from close range.
Unfortunately the Millers couldn’t see out their lead to the final whistle, succumbing to a late leveller from the visitors.
