Rotherham United would like to thank our Good Friday hosts at Preston North End in advance for their planned efforts to celebrate the life and career of Arthur Wharton.

Prior to the fixture between the Millers and the Lilywhites – two clubs that Arthur represented during his esteemed playing career – Preston North End will be holding a ceremony which will culminate in the unveiling of a plaque in his honour.

This fixture has been purposefully selected by our hosts at Deepdale as a result of the ‘special connection’ that Arthur had with our football club and we are incredibly proud to once again be involved in shining a light on the immeasurable influence his success had – and still has – on the game we love.

The event has been largely organised by Preston North End’s Community and Education Trust Heritage Co-ordinator Michael Barrett and he has been working closely with Shaun Campbell of the Arthur Wharton Foundation to put this fantastic event together.

The plaque reveal will begin at 10am (outside the stadium, next to the Dick, Kerr Ladies memorial), before moving inside to the Greats’ Room for the presentation by Shaun Campbell.

Everyone at Rotherham United would like to wish Preston North End well with tomorrow’s event and once again thank them for playing their part in sharing Arthur’s story.
