Rotherham United are currently seeking care and accommodation providers (Host Families) that can provide a suitable home for academy players aged 16-18 years, who will be required to live away from home to fulfil their education and football training at our club.
Our ideal Host family provision will be able to offer our young players a stable, safe, comfortable and happy family environment. We believe our players perform better on the pitch when they are settled and content at home.
At Rotherham United we pride ourselves on ensuring that we provide a nurturing environment and we want our players to develop to their full potential both on and off the pitch.
Essential Requirements:
- You will be located within the Rotherham area, with good public transport links to the training ground, and ideally no more than four miles away. You should offer good quality accommodation with a bedroom for each young player, preferably in a family environment.
- You will provide a high quality nutritional daily breakfast, evening meal and occasional lunches, access to bathroom and laundry facilities and WiFi.
- Accommodation will be required from Sunday evening to Saturday morning each week over 10 months of the year with occasional breaks to reflect the football season.
- Provision to accommodate players on a short-term basis throughout the season is also desirable to cover trialists and holidays.
Rotherham United are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all accommodation providers to share this commitment.
This role involves supervision and work with young people and is subject to Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks as well as clearance through The FA CRB system for all members of the household over 16 years of age.
As such this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and all members of the household must disclose all previous convictions including spent convictions.
Two written references will also be required and applicants must be committed to completing Safeguarding and other training as appropriate to the role.
Applicants will, in addition, be expected to provide evidence that the accommodation meets required safety standards including Gas and Electrical Certificates.
The club will also regularly require access to the accommodation provision over the season to ensure it continues to meet the needs of all involved.
The club will provide further guidance on what would be expected of any Host Family, prior to any agreement made.
Desirable Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Experience and knowledge of working with young people.
- An understanding of the emotional impact and well-being challenges that academy/professional football life may bring.
- Child-focused approach.
- Ability to promote and demonstrate anti-discriminatory practice.
- Capacity to accommodate more than one player.
