Rotherham United head coach Leam Richardson discussed his side's 3-0 Good Friday defeat at Preston North End with the local media following full-time at Deepdale.

The hosts inflicted the damage in the first half with three first half goals which began with a Duane Holmes opener before being added to twice by Emil Riis.

Speaking after the game, the Millers boss expressed his empathy towards the fans that travelled to support the time whilst adding that his side were below par in the first half against a a side making a late dash for a Play-off place and potential promotion to the Premier League.

“The individual errors are costing us. You have got to be better and respond. You can’t afford to do this when you facing top Championship teams. Preston have got 7-8 international footballers on the pitch today so when you are not bang at it and 100 percent focused on the job in hand, then it’s a tough ride.

“Confidence is everything. At the minute, our confidence levels are very low. It’s frustrating because you have to chop and change the team with injuries etc.

“I just said to the players and the staff, afterwards, you have a choice and I’ve said it since I came in the building. There is no else coming in to help. You have each other and you can either go down with a whimper or give an account of ourselves. In the last three weeks, it has not represented me very well and represented ourselves very well. We took a bit of pride in the second half and we have to do that for the rest of the season.

“We have seven big games for the football club. Every time you put the shirt on, you should take pride in that and give the best account of yourselves. You call on your professionalism and your experience to make sure you learn from this and come out on the other side.

“The fans live and breathe it every single day. We have got to represent ourselves a lot better than what we have been doing.”
