Rotherham United are proud to be joining clubs across the country in helping to combat climate change and promote ways in which we can make our planet a more sustainable place for everyone to live, with Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Southampton at AESSEAL New York Stadium dedicated to Green Football Weekend.

The Millers are pledging their support to the world’s largest climate-football campaign, which returns for a second year. The Green Football Weekend takes place across the weekend of February 2-5 and offers all clubs an opportunity to showcase their sustainability work.

Already this year, we have made fantastic progress in our mission to make Rotherham United a green and sustainable football club and – with the help of our fantastic Community Trust – we have put in countless hours of work in numerous projects around sustainability, cost living and the environment.

Such campaigns include our #TidyUpOurTown initiative which saw us work alongside RUCT to organise and partake in over 154 hours of litter picking across the town, collecting 66 full bags of rubbish, equating to over 1,100kgs of waste taken off the streets of Rotherham.

As well as this, thanks to the help of striker Georgie Kelly, we launched our Swap Shop, offering supporters the opportunity to trade in their surplus Rotherham United kit and ‘swap’ it for something new.

These are just two of the many examples of our work around improving the health of our planet in the last 12 months and this is very much the start of our commitment to helping to save the planet.

This year, the theme of the campaign is focused on the power of veg to help protect our world, with supporters being encouraged to try cooking a veggie meal and maybe even sample some of the vegetarian options available at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

These include a vegan ‘no meat’ and onion pie and vegetarian options such as a cheese, leak and potato pie, vegetarian chilli and race and nachos with vegetarian chilli, so why not try a meat free choice at this Saturday’s fixture against the Saints?
