Rotherham United were delighted to give the Akerele family their first taste of football at AESSEAL New York Stadium at our Random Act of Kindness-themed game against Hull City on Tuesday night.
The Akerele family have recently moved into the area and by chance, happened to be down at the stadium taking a look around, unbeknowst that the Millers were set to play Sky Bet Championship football on Tuesday night.
Having spoken with members of our Community Sports Trust team, we learned of their story and took the opportunity to offer them free tickets to the match against the Tigers.
To make their first ever visit extra special, they were even taken pitchside before kick off, where they met first team trio Peter Kioso, Arvin Appiah and Sam Nombe, who had a chat and posed for a quick photo before returning to their pre-match preparations.
It goes without saying that we are always thrilled to welcome first time fans to our home here at AESSEAL New York Stadium and we hope that your first visit was a memorable one!
