POST-MATCH | WE COULD HAVE WON IT ON OUR SECOND HALF SHOWING - RICHARDSON

Rotherham United boss Leam Richardson admitted that he thought his side looked the more likely of the two to win it after an excellent second half performance at Portman Road.

The Millers took the early incentive through Tom Eaves but found themselves 3-1 down at the half time interval leaving them with an uphill task to get back into the clash at high-flying Ipswich.

With that said, the visitors came out of the dressing room following the restart to turn in arguably their performance of the season so far and were dealt the cruellest of blows with a stoppage time goal from Omari Hutchinson.

Speaking after the game Richardson said:

“I’m disappointed for the players. The performance was there for all to see, we’ve come to a really good Ipswich side, who are doing very well and dominated in large parts.

“We had a mad five to 10 minute spell after we scored the first goal. We started the game terrifically well, exactly how we wanted to and took a backstep after that.

“The first goal had too much of an impact on us and that led to us conceding two more but the response after that was excellent.

“When you score three goals away from home, you’d like to think we don’t lose the game and to concede so late like we did is gut-wrenching for the players.

“The players can take a lot of pride from the performance, they went toe-to-toe with a very good game. Like in recent weeks, we’ve come out on top in terms of a lot of the stats, apart from the most important one.

“We want to represent Rotherham United well, we’ve got to make a fist of it and give a good account of ourself which I think we are doing.

“I think we worked hard enough to get ourselves back to 3-3 and had a really good chance to win the game and then they go down the other end and score, which is disappointing.

“We can only keep working hard and move onto QPR, if we play like that we we’ll give ourselves every chance of winning the game.”
