Rotherham United are incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for the EFL Green Club Award for the 2023/24 campaign, with the winners set to be announced at the League’s annual ceremony in London on Sunday 14th April.

Nominated alongside Watford and Northampton Town, we have made great progress in our mission to make Rotherham United a more green and sustainable football club, with the help of our fantastic Community Trust.

Countless hours have been put in working on a number of projects, all with sustainability, the cost of living crisis and the environment at the heart of our endeavours.

Such campaigns include our #TidyUpOurTown initiative, which saw us work alongside the Trust and first team players to organise an partake in over 154 hours of litter picking across Rotherham, collecting 66 full bags of rubbish, which equates to 1,000kgs removed from our streets.

Furthermore, with the help of former Millers striker Georgie Kelly, we launched our Swap Shop, which offered our supporters the opportunity to trade in surplus Rotherham United items of clothing and ‘swap’ it for something new, rather than it going to waste or being thrown away.

As well as this, we wanted to help people who wanted to 'be more greener' but didn't know how, producing a '10 top tips booklet, which included advice on getting fit, saving money and living a greener life.

Community Programme Manager Jonny Allan told www.themillers.co.uk:

“Making Rotherham United a more green and sustainable football club has been something we’ve been working incredibly hard on over a number of months and it is absolutely fantastic that our endeavours have been recognised with our nomination for the EFL Green Club Award."

Jonny Allan, Community Programme Manager

“I’d like to thank absolutely everyone who has worked so tirelessly throughout the course of this season and even beyond that, including staff and volunteers who have put hours of effort into a whole host of projects and initiatives.

“Special praise as well must go to the first team staff at Rotherham United, who are always happy to give up their time to assist us in championing such a fantastic cause, whether that be helping with our swap shops or taking to the streets of Rotherham to pick litter.

“Of course, we won’t be resting on our laurels and this nomination makes us more determined than ever before to build upon what we’ve already started here.”
