Following permissions being granted by the EFL which permits the Millers to add a player to their 25-man squad list following the season-ending injury to Andre Green, boss Matt Taylor has swooped to secure the signature of experienced defender Daniel Ayala on a short-term deal - subject to ratification.
The 32-year-old brings with him a wealth of second tier experience to AESSEAL New York Stadium and bolsters a defence which has been hit hard by injury problems since the beginning of the 2023/24 campaign.
The one-time Liverpool centre back has spent the entirety of his career at second tier level and above and can call upon experiences with the likes of Norwich City, Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough – the latter of whom he enjoyed promotion to the Premier League with in 2015/16.
Ayala has amassed over 300 appearances throughout his senior career which began at Anfield in 2009 with 26 of those outings coming in the top flight.
The Spanish defender has been out of contract since leaving Blackburn Rovers in the summer and joins the Millers ahead of Sunday’s trip to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday, where he could potentially make his debut should the relevant clearances be received in time.
Ayala will wear the number 4 shirt for the Millers.
