Rotherham United would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone that attended last night’s game AESSEAL New York Stadium – which was dedicated to the memory of Laura Vickers – for their incredibly generous donations which have seen us raise over £700 for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity.

We were completely taken aback by the poignancy of that 31st minute applause which was immaculately observed by everyone inside the ground and the club would also like to take this opportunity to place on-record our thanks to the players, staff and supporters from Bristol City for their part in that.

The match referee temporarily stopped proceedings as every single person inside AESSEAL New York Stadium joined in a period of applause as a reminder to Josh Vickers and all of his and Laura’s family and friends – some of whom were in attendance last night – that we are here for them in this truly heartbreaking time.

The response to that moment has been unanimous in that it was an exceptionally powerful and emotional tribute and one that truly defines the meaning of the ‘football family’ and how big an impact we can have when we come together in times like these.

Our final thanks go to the Rotherham United Community Trust, who provided us with the volunteers to collect donations on the night for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and Broadsword, who very kindly supplied the club with the t-shirts.

Our message to Josh remains the same, and if anything is now stronger, we’re with you.

If you would still like to make a donation to the charity of the hospital who cared for Laura, you can do so online at the link below.
