Rotherham United would like to thank everyone who took part in special night at AESSEAL New York Stadium, as a crowd of 1,124 cheered Rotherham United Women to a dramatic victory over Mansfield Town Ladies to lift the inaugural #HerGameToo Shield.

We’re incredibly proud to have a women’s team associated with Rotherham United and following the unprecedented success of the 2022 UEFA Women’s EUROS tournament, we are determined to help raise the profile of the women’s game both in our town and beyond.

For the first time, we saw the Women’s Player’s Player and Player of the Season awards presented alongside the men’s at our 2022/23 Season Dinner and crowds have doubled at RUWFC fixtures since the start of the campaign.

To cap-off a highly successful campaign, Pete Jarvis’ RUWFC side welcomed the Stags to our AESSEAL New York Stadium home for the first time ever and a record-crowd for RUWFC took in the occasion last Thursday.

On a night where Women’s football was undoubtedly the winner, the Millers claimed a dramatic penalty shoot-out triumph following a goalless – but entertaining - draw in normal time, to lift the shield in what we’re hoping will become a staple of the footballing calendar.

Head of Community Jamie Noble, who is also Chairman of RUWFC, reserved special praise for Chairman Tony Stewart in helping to facilitate the event at AESSEAL New York Stadium, as well the team’s sponsors and all who turned out for the game.

“It has been another fantastic year for Rotherham United Women FC and Thursday’s match was a truly amazing way to cap off a great season,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“We wanted to build on the incredibly successful UEFA Women’s EUROs last summer and this game certainly captured the imagination of the town.

“Having said that, we were still blown away by the fantastic support we received on the night, with people both young and old turning out in their numbers to cheer on the team.

“I would like to thank the Chairman, Tony Stewart, for his backing and the part he played in helping us achieve this vision, as well as our sponsors Prestige Finance, The Elevator Company and Mattress Online, who have supported us throughout the campaign."

“This is just the start of what we have planned here and after successfully retaining our league place last term, we want to push for promotion in 2023/24 and make RUWFC a big player in the women’s game.

“We have grown both on and off the pitch and next year we will be introducing a reserve team for the first time, giving us a much bigger pool of players to choose from and more depth in the squad.

“Again, I would like to say a sincere thanks for everyone who played their part in a record-breaking night at AESSEAL New York Stadium and we hope to be seeing more games of this calibre in the future.”
