Rotherham United Honorary Life President John Breckin is on a mission to bring the town of Rotherham together to remember their loved ones, with the return of the Midnight Memory Walk in aid of the Rotherham Hospice.

The event – championed by Breck – will return on Saturday 24th June for the first time in seven years and will start at our AESSEAL New York Stadium, with people invited to walk 10km or 15km through Rotherham in the middle of the night, in order to support people affected by end-of-life illnesses across the town.

Breck is one of 400 people who have already signed up to participate in the fundraiser, alongside Millers legends Ronnie Moore and Richard Wood, as well as lifelong supporter and TV star Dean Andrews.

People wishing to join Breck and the rest of the team can do so for just £5, with Midnight Memory Walk T-shirts available to purchase for £7.50 each.

Millers Chairman Tony Stewart has already pledged his support to the fundraiser, with ASD Lighting, Burrows Motors, Elvin Automatic Services and PA Entertainments already backing the walk.

Here at Rotherham United, we are incredibly proud of the work that John has done – and continues to do – for a charity that we know has touched the hearts of so many people in our community and beyond.

John was there at the very start of the Midnight Memory Walk, which departed from Millmoor back in the summer of 2008, with over 1,000 people getting involved. This year, the Hospice have set a £10,000 target and with over £4000 of that already raised, Breck is hoping that this year’s event will be the biggest yet.

“We’re excited that the Midnight Memory Walk is back, the first one was all the way back when we were at Millmoor and we had over 1,000 people turn up for this great cause,” he told www.themillers.co.uk.

“As you’ll know, I’m heavily involved with the Rotherham Hospice and at the last meeting we had, we decided it would be a good time to resurrect it, because it has been a few years since we last did one.

“It’s going to be the 24th June and we already have over 400 people registered for it, with the likes of Ronnie Moore, Dean Andrews and Richard Wood already signed up.

“Rotherham is a very generous town and we always come together to support those who need us, I can’t thank everyone enough for everything they’ve done to support us over the years and I’m sure it’ll be another great night on 24th June.”

“We’ve had an excellent response already, with he likes of ASD, Burrows Motors, Elvin Automation Services and many more putting their names forward to sponsor us. I’d like to thank PA Entertainments as well, who will be providing music on the night.

“This is a big thing, the Hospice needs our help, it was there for my family when I needed it and it has touched the hearts of many people in our town.

“Everybody knows about the Rotherham Hospice and the job that they do. It is a great charity, that is right on our doorstep and it is up to us to support it.”

As a charity, Rotherham Hospice needs to raise £3 million each year to fund vital end-of-life services and can only do it thanks to the kindness and generosity of fundraisers and donations.
