Rotherham United defender Cameron Humphreys has been voted as your Mattress Online Man of the Match for Tuesday night’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Preston North End in the Sky Bet Championship.
The former Manchester City man was the player who caught the eye on a difficult evening for the Millers, who had restored parity at AESSEAL New York Stadium through Hakeem Odoffin after Tom Cannon had fired the Lilywhites in front. Ched Evans’ second goal for the visitors would prove decisive in a game where Matt Taylor’s men applied some late pressure, but were unable to really test Freddie Woodman in the Preston goal.
Humphreys has provided the Millers with a calming influence in central defence this season and has been paired with a number of different players in that position, forming partnerships with each with relative ease.
Last night, he turned in another assured display alongside Lee Peltier at the heart of the defence, before striking up a similar on-field relationship with substitute Tyler Blackett.
The 24-year-old is highly-rated by Taylor and the staff and Roundwood and whilst the result wasn’t the one that the Millers were looking for, Humphreys’ continued growth in stature is reason to be encouraged.
Humphreys was nominated for the award in a three-man shortlist last night alongside Chiedozie Ogbene and Hakeem Odoffin, winning the prize with 37.9% of the 390 votes cast.
