Rotherham United’s Millers Memory Club were recently visited by the BBC who were down to cover the amazing work being carried out by John Breckin and the team for those who are suffering with or have encountered memory-related illnesses.

Gethin Jones, who co-hosts the BBC’s Morning Live programme alongside Kym Marsh was on hand at AESSEAL New York Stadium to showcase the Memory Club, as well as raise awareness for former players and staff who are suffering with or encountered illnesses such as dementia, with the show broadcast live on Monday morning.

Here at Rotherham United, we are incredibly proud of Breck and everyone who has put so much into the Millers Memory Club, which has welcomed an array of people from former players suffering with the memory-related illnesses, to staff, supporters and people in the community.

One such attendee is legendary former Millers and England defender Dave Watson, who was interviewed for the programme, along with his wife Penny. Dawn Astle – co-founder of the Jeff Astle Foundation and long-term campaigner of the need to support those who have suffered neurological illnesses– also spoke to the programme, as well as neuroscientist Dr Michael Grey from the University of East Anglia.

Honorary Life President John Breckin and a raft of former players including Richard Finney, Mick Leng and Paul Stancliffe have been the driving force behind the AESSEAL New York Stadium meetings, which have provided an understanding and welcoming environment for so many people.

The show, was aired live on BBC One at 9:15am this morning but those supporters who were unable to catch it live are still able to catch it on BBC iPlayer by clicking here, with the visit featuring around 25 minutes into the programme.

The Millers Memory Club is open to everyone to attend free of charge and takes place on a monthly basis at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
