Rotherham United can confirm that goalkeeper Josh Vickers will join Sky Bet League One outfit Derby County upon the expiration of his current deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

Following contract discussions which have taken place over the summer and saw the Millers offer the 27-year-old a new deal on improved terms, the former Arsenal Academy goalkeeper has opted to depart the club for a new challenge.

The Billericay-born stopper joined the Millers from Lincoln City in November 2020 and would go on to make 30 appearances in total in Rotherham United colours in a spell which also included promotion to the Sky Bet Championship and Papa Johns Trophy success in 2021/22.

Having initially been patient for his place between the sticks, Vickers became a mainstay in goal from September 2021 onwards before injury and the subsequent form of Viktor Johansson saw his first team opportunities become limited.

With Johansson continuing to shine in goal, Vickers became an ever-dependable deputy which was never more in evidence when he stepped back into the Number One shirt against Norwich City following injury to the Swede last season.

Josh departs Rotherham United with the best wishes of everyone at the club and our thanks for his contribution whilst at AESSEAL New York Stadium.
