Rotherham United can confirm that attacker Chiedozie Ogbene will join Premier League outfit Luton Town on 1st July 2023 upon the expiry of his current deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers have been in constant dialogue with the Republic of Ireland international regarding a possible new deal on improved terms, but having assessed his options and the understandable interest in acquiring his services from elsewhere, the 26-year-old has decided to pursue an opportunity with the newly-promoted Hatters.

Ogbene arrived in South Yorkshire as a player with obvious raw talent and has flourished during his time in Rotherham United colours, going on to establish himself as a mainstay both at AESSEAL New York Stadium and internationally with the Republic of Ireland, earning his first call-up to the senior side whilst with the Millers.

Having played for the club in a number of positions, Ogbene helped the club achieve promotion from Sky Bet League One in seasons 2019/20 and 2021/22, as well as the Papa Johns Trophy in the latter campaign, in which he scored in the final against Sutton United.

Last term, he found himself utilised in a more attacking role and contributed 9 goals in all competitions, as Matt Taylor’s men retained their Sky Bet Championship status.

Having taken time to assess his options over the summer months – which included a good offer on the table from the Millers to retain his services – the lure of Premier League football was too much for Chieo to turn down and he leaves with all the best wishes and thanks from everyone at Rotherham United.
