Rotherham United are delighted to confirm the arrival of goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, who has penned a two-year deal at AESSEAL New York Stadium, subject to ratification from the EFL and FA and international clearance.
Phillips at arrives in South Yorkshire following the expiration of his deal with fellow Sky Bet Championship outfit Cardiff City and will challenge Viktor Johansson for the number one jersey.
The 28-year-old began his career in the capital with Charlton Athletic who he joined aged just eight before progressing through the Academy ranks all the way to senior level.
He spent one of his formative years on loan in the National League with Cheltenham Town in 2015/16 where he nailed down the Number One shirt and made 37 appearances across all competitions.
The spell with the Robins clearly aided his development and upon his return to The Valley, he found first team opportunities presenting themselves more regularly. The 2018/19 season would be Phillips’ most notable in his early years and would see him star in a promotion-winning campaign in which he made 37 appearances.
His time in the capital would come to an end after over 150 appearances in Addicks colours when Cardiff City swooped to secure his services for an undisclosed fee in 2020.
Phillips featured 36 times for the Bluebirds before spending the previous campaign overseas, having been on loan with Belgian top-flight outfit K.V Oostende.
The stopper becomes the fifth player this summer to put pen-to-paper with Matt Taylor's side, following Lee Peltier, Sean Morrison, Tyler Blackett and Grant Hall in signing deals in South Yorkshire.
