The only thing missing from midfielder Cafu’s stellar performance against Sheffield United at AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday evening was a goal.
The Portuguese operator – signed in the summer following the expiration of his contract with Nottingham Forest – was playing in front of the home supporters for just the second time and certainly made an impression.
With the Millers already 1-0 up against the Premier League Blades thanks to a spectacular opener from Trialist in the 11th minute, Cafu was desperately unlucky not to extend the lead when he saw his long distance drive beaten away by Wes Foderingham in the visitors’ goal.
Committed in the tackle and with an eye for a pass, the midfielder was enjoying himself and went even closer to netting late in the first half, seeing a powerful free kick effort thunder off the crossbar.
Cafu was rewarded for his display by earning 66.3% of the votes cast for the Mattress Online Man of the Match, with Cohen Bramall, Cameron Humphreys and Tolaji Bola also nominated.
