Georgie Kelly spoke to www.themillers.co.uk in the build up to Saturday’s pre-season clash with Mansfield Town and insisted he was raring to go.
He certainly proved it.
The Irishman – back in the side after shaking off a knock which saw him miss Wednesday’s fixture with Middlesbrough – helped himself to a superb hat-trick to fire the Millers to a 4-2 victory at One Call Stadium.
His first of the afternoon came in the opening 45 minutes, when he applied a cool finish past Christy Pym to put them Millers 2-1 up, after Trialist’s opener had been cancelled out by Stephen Quinn.
He then put the Millers back ahead early in the second half following an equaliser from Rhys Oates, planting a powerful header past the outstretched arm of Pym.
Kelly secured the matchball on 57 minutes with another expertly converted header, guiding Ollie Rathbone’s corner home to make it 4-2.
The popular striker’s performance saw him earn a landslide 93.2% of the 1,187 votes cast, seeing off competition from Dillon Phillips, Sean Morrison and Ollie Rathbone.
