Rotherham United have been deeply saddened to learn of the passing of supporter and local community hero Paul Greenway.
Millers fans may remember Paul, who featured on our 2022 Christmas Day video, in which the club rewarded his countless hours of volunteering in the local community with a VIP experience at AESSEAL New York Stadium across two days having been introduced to us by Mears Group.
One of Paul’s ‘bucket list’ items was to visit AESSEAL New York Stadium for the first time and not only was he able to do that, but he was also given a surprise visit by Honorary Life President John Breckin and current first team defender Wes Harding.
Together with Mears, we were able to offer Paul and his son the opportunity to attend a first team game in the hospitality areas, where he enjoyed an all-inclusive experience back in December.
The Christmas Day video was designed to shine a light on the fact that Paul had selflessly devoted so many hours of his life to helping others in our community without ever seeking the acclaim for doing so. He was the type of individual that helps to keep this town ticking and it was our pleasure to learn of his amazing story and get to know him more personally.
Paul committed countless hours to the amazing work carried out by local charities Rotherfed and Mind and will be greatly missed by the many people that he was able to support through that involvement.
Having been fortunate enough to meet Paul upon his visit, his passing comes as incredibly sad news to everyone here at Rotherham United and we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and many friends.
