Rotherham United and Brinsworth Whitehill Girls were in action across the opening full weekends of 2023, playing a number of games across the region.

Here is a round-up of how they got on…

Rotherham United Women started off the year in style, with a stunning 6-1 success over Airmyn FC at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park on Sunday.

Vic Goodill, Rachel Hale, Nnola Oyeka, Georgia Harris and Izzy Wretham were all on target for the Millers, with an own goal also going in their favour.

Meanwhile, Brinsworth Whitehill Girls Women’s team pushed league leaders Kiveton Park all the way in a thrilling League Cup tie.

A hat-trick from Caitlin Cooper had fired the Millers to victory over Swallownest in the previous round and they were determined to continue their good form in the cup,.

The Millers had forced extra time after earning a credible 2-2 draw in 90 minutes, but the table-toppers showed their quality in the extended period, eventually running out 5-2 winners.

Jessica Broadhurst and Anaia Willoughby got themselves on the scoresheet, with Freya Sunderland earning herself the Player of the Match Award after a fine display.

Last weekend, the U14s secured their place in the next round of the cup with a 4-1 success over Middlewood, with a hat-trick from Mia inspiring them to victory, with Jasmine also scoring.

The U15s were also in red-hot form in front of goal, putting Steel City Wanderers to the sword 5-1, with two goals each from Chloe and Player of the Match Tatyana, with another from Kyrah.

Continuing the theme of comprehensive victories, the U18s were also on the right side of a comprehensive win, beating Handsworth Girls 4-0. Brooke scored from the penalty spot and direct from a corner, while Amber also scored.
