Rotherham United midfielder Ollie Rathbone has been rewarded for another energetic display during Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Blackpool at Bloomfield Road with the Mattress Online Man of the Match Award.

With both sides digging in to keep each of at bay, Rathbone had energy in bucketloads in the clash at the seaside and was often at the heart of the Millers’ best attacking moments. It was Rathbone’s barnstorming run from halfway which created an opportunity for Cohen Bramall to strike the crossbar from a free kick, after the midfielder had been hacked down.

He was again at the centre of a Rotherham attack when he latched onto a loose ball, before looking to pick his spot with a fierce drive, forcing Tangerines keeper Chris Maxwell into a good save. Captaining the side for only the second time, he created the best opportunity of the game in added time when he led a cavalry charge from midfield before finding Ogbene, who rattled a strike off the crossbar.

Cohen Bramall – reintroduced to the side following an injury setback for Leo Hjelde – also won plaudits for his performance on the left flank, which saw him offer a good outlet for his side, whilst also keeping Blackpool dangerman Josh Bowler quiet.

It was a good defensive performance overall, with centre-back Cameron Humphreys also nominated for his assured performance in the backline, with West Ham loanee Conor Coventry also recognised for a good display in the middle of the park but it was Rathbone who topped the poll, with 42.7% of the 827 votes cast.
