Rotherham United’s U18s were bettered by their West Yorkshire counterparts Huddersfield Town on Wednesday afternoon as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat on the road in the Youth Alliance League.

The White Rose battle was presided over by former player and current Lead Youth Development Phase Coach Joe Skarz, who was unable to prevent his side from being beaten by the Terriers in the midweek meeting.

Hamid Seisay was on the scoresheet for the youngsters who were ultimately defeated by goals from Hazeem Bakre, trialist and Michael Stone at Millers Oils High Performance Complex.

The Millers gave a good account of themselves in an end-to-end affair in West Yorkshire and started brightly drawing early saves from the Terriers’ keeper in the first opportunities of note in the match.

They were dealt a blow when the hosts showed a clinical edge to despatch their first chance of the game which came on the counter-attack following a Millers corner, with Bakre capping a swashbuckling after tearing clear of a couple of pursuing defenders.

The Terriers added a second with Bakre turning provider this time as he played a ball in for trialist to convert from close range.

The Millers showed good resolve and hit back with a goal of their own in the 22nd minute, as Seisay pounced to turn home a rebound following a save from an attacking set piece to pull it back to 1-2.

Skarz’s side stayed in the contest up until the 90th minute when Stone put the hosts out of sight with a third goal which came in the form of a perfectly-executed free kick routine from the edge of the area.
