Rotherham United attacker Sam Nombe has continued his rich vein of form by collecting another Mattress Online Man of the Match award for his performance in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Birmingham City at St Andrew’s.
The summer signing was a colossus at the top end of the pitch, with good work both in and out of possession throughout the clash in the Second City. He was unfortunate not to get his name on the scoresheet in the first half when he robbed Dion Sanderson of possession before firing an outside-of-the-foot effort just wide from a tight angle.
He came close again moments later when he steered Seb Revan’s cross onto the crossbar from close range, following pressure from John Ruddy in the Blues goal. Nombe continued to look the most likely source for the Millers and again forced Ruddy into action on 74 minutes. This time, he darted for the byline before forcing an excellent save.
Nombe’s performance certainly didn’t go unnoticed, with the striker landing 66.7% of the 553 votes cast, nominated alongside Ollie Rathbone, Hakeem Odoffin and Seb Revan.
