Rotherham United head coach Leam Richardson was pleased with how his side competed with West Bromwich Albion in his first game in the home dugout at AESSEAL New York Stadium.

The Millers slipped to a 2-0 defeat in a match in which the stats were fairly balanced, with the visitors capitalising on both of their two shots on-target during the match.

Speaking after the game, Richardson said:

"I've been told the group is an honest bunch of pros, which you've just seen again.

"They're playing against a fantastic team with ample forward-thinking players in the squad but I thought we matched them.

"I thought we matched them in every area and I think they've had two shots on-target.

"Within the game, there was nothing in it.

"I thought the lads stuck the task very well and the stood by the game plan.

"Can we create a little more quality and a few more chances once we get there? Of course we can, but we quickly move on.

"It's been a matter of hours getting to know first name etc, so we quickly move on tomorrow, dust ourselves down and go again."
