Rotherham Untied Under 18s secured their second successive victory with a stunning 3-0 triumph over Mansfield Town at RH Academy on Saturday.

First half strikes from Leiwi Abraham and Joel Holvey put the Millers in a commanding position in Nottinghamshire, before Jake Champion put some more gloss on the victory in the second period.

It was the hosts who started the game the brighter, with Bailey Hamilton called into action to deny his namesake in the Stags’ midfield.

And that save proved to be crucial, as the Millers edged their noses in front in the fifth minute when Abraham capitalised on an error in midfield to apply a cool finish into the bottom corner.

The home side looked to hit back and squandered two big chances to do so in the 18th minute. McKeal Abdullah was inches away from converting Darien Wauchope’s inviting cross, before Ronnie Kokkinos saw his effort repelled by Hamilton.

Stags’ Bailey Hamilton was proving lively in the opening period and made a lung busting run from his own penalty box before laying the ball towards Jakub Kruszynski, whose shot on goal was again beaten away by an inspired Millers’ keeper.

And the visitors made Mansfield pay for missing their chances once again, when Joel Holvey scored a superb solo goal to double the advantage two minutes before the break.

The Millers looked to hit their hosts on the counter attack on the hour mark, when the lively Abraham was hauled down by Finn Flanagan, who was booked for his challenge, but they would not be denied with 62 minutes on the clock, when a deep cross into the area was met with a powerful header from Holvey to make it 3-0.

To their credit, the home side continued to push for a way back into it, with Noah Aynsley-Johnson and Tyler Whyle both going close to pulling a goal back.

In the final stages, the Millers almost added further daylight between themselves and the home side, when forward Josh Ayres was played through on goal, but he was hauled down by the Stags keeper outside the box, who took a booking after denying the opportunity.
