The Millers’ captain has been nominated for the monthly award as his purple patch continues.
Wood is currently perched as the clubs top scorer so far this season – firing in 4 goals in the opening 7 games as Rotherham continue to prove that they aren’t here just to make up the numbers.
The full list of nominees is as follows:
Oscar Estupinan (Hull City) - striker
An arch old-school poacher, the Colombian’s seven goals in six games added up to a combined distance of 33 yards. If they were rarely things of beauty, their value was priceless to Hull, the division’s second lowest scorers last season.
Liam Lindsay (Preston North End) – central defender
The Scot came of age in August, heading, tackling and blocking everything in front of him as Preston earned six clean sheets in as many games. Lindsay was the rock, dominant in the air and utterly determined to keep his goal intact.
Ross Stewart (Sunderland) – striker
The Scot spent last season terrorising League One defences. In August he did the same to Championship opponents, using his strength, intelligence and subtle movement to power forward and claim five goals and three assists in six games.
Richard Wood (Rotherham United) – central defender
Three goals in four starts and a late substitute appearance would be a fine return for a striker. Throw in the three clean sheets Wood helped to keep in his day job as a defender, plus the fact he is 37 and it becomes outstanding.
