Cohen Bramall found joy down the left flank throughout the match, using his blistering pace to leave Cardiff shirts in the dust. The wing-back was not shy of his defensive duties either, getting back down the pitch as quick as he darted up it on multiple occasions to recover the ball to holt Cardiff counters.
It was an equally busy day at the office on the opposite side, as Wes Harding seemed ever-threatening to a solid Cardiff backline. Wes was deployed as a right wing-back in the match, but moved to centre-back following the introduction of Brooke Norton-Cuffy, and in both positions performed defensive heroics to keep the Millers in with a fighting chance until the end.
The Jamaican has been ‘Mr. Reliable’ across his 113 appearances in a Rotherham shirt, and certainly lived up to that name on Saturday.
However, the eventual winner of the Mattress Online Man of the Match award was the cool-headed veteran Lee Peltier, who dealt brilliantly with the pressure as he had his hands full throughout the ’90.
The Liverpool-born defender spent five years in South Wales with the Bluebirds, and returned to a warm reception from the home fans. However, the 17,000 Cardiff fans in the stadium will no doubt come away with a more grudging respect for Peltier as he frustrated a talented Cardiff frontline, with multiple last-ditch challenges and smart interceptions.
Peltier edged out his teammates Cohen Bramall and Wes Harding to win the award. His 47.2% share of the 411 votes cast proved to be enough for the win, narrowly edging out Bramall’s 38.4%.
