Relentless in his running and ruthless in front of goal. Ollie Rathbone’s performance epitomised an excellent team display on Saturday in which he and his Millers comrades were incredibly unfortunate to find themselves on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline against Norwich City. The effort across the pitch was immense and was sprinkled with some excellent football, but it was goalscorer Ollie who landed himself the Mattress Online Man of the Match award.
The visitors would have been the bookies’ favourites coming into the weekend’s showdown at AESSEAL New York Stadium, with Dean Smith’s men gunning for an immediate return to the Premier League, but Matt Taylor’s Millers charges not only matched them, but at times, also showed possessional dominance of their own.
Typifying another all-action display across the park, Rathbone pounced in the press to seize the ball back high up the pitch and make Norwich City pay, as he swept a left-footed effort home into the bottom corner to restore parity at 1-1.
Despite defeat, it was another tough fixture for us to put together a shortlist of just four names, however, it was narrowed down to Rathbone, Jamie Lindsay, Dan Barlaser and Wes Harding – although honourable mentions must also go to Peter Kioso and Brooke Norton-Cuffy.
With over 60% of the 659 votes cast, Rathbone claimed the award for the clash with Norwich City.
