Rotherham United are delighted to confirm that Scott Brown has joined the first team staff at Roundwood as the club’s new goalkeeping coach, with the 37-year-old completing the switch from Exeter City, signing a deal with the Millers until the summer of 2026.

The Wolverhampton-born operator will once again link up with manager Matt Taylor, his assistant Wayne Carlisle and first team/development coach Jon Hill who completed their own moves from Devon to AESSEAL New York Stadium in October.

The 37-year-old joined the Grecians  in 2021 following a spell with Port Vale to kick-start his coaching career, but was also registered as a player if required. He departed Vale Park despite not missing a single league game during his three year stay in Staffordshire, picking up the club’s Player of the Year accolade at the end of the 2017/18 campaign.

Prior to that, Brown enjoyed almost a decade between the sticks with Cheltenham Town, with spells at Wycombe Wanderers and north of the border with Aberdeen, amassing over 500 appearances through his coaching career.

He will fly out to Cyprus next week with the rest of the first team squad for their overseas training camp and will be in the dugout for the first time when the Millers return to action following the World Cup break, when they host Bristol City on Saturday 10th December.

Billy Mercer – who has been overseeing first team goalkeeping matters at Roundwood – will now assist Scott in a handover period before departing the club. We would like to thank Billy for his outstanding commitment to the football club during his time both as a player and a coach and wish him all the best for the future.

Everyone at Rotherham United would like to welcome Scott to the club and once again thank our colleagues at Exeter City for their assistance in helping him complete his move to AESSEAL New York Stadium.
